Application for the master's program Ecological Engineering

Study conditions

The master's program Ecological Engineering can be applied by graduates of different courses. Such programs are Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning, Biology, Geography, Forestry, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Sciences or similar, which were either at German universities with a bachelor's degree, Diploma, master's degree or foreign Universities with a bachelor's degree or equivalent completed.

For a successful application for the master's program you should have a basic knowledge in one or more of the following areas of science: Biology, Ecology, Ecosystem Sciences, Geography, Land Use Sciences, Environmental Planning / Management and / or Environmental Engineering.

Since the courses are held mainly in German (partly in English), German and English language proficiency is obligatory (German language proficiency requirements).

Application procedure

Basis for a successful application is a two level application procedure. During the first level, completed grades of former studies are evaluated as well as the motivation letter. Surpassing the treshholds, the second application level is reached by an invitation for an application interview. Purpose of the interview meeting is to clarify whether the applicant has a basic understanding of natural and ecological issues or the planning of technic-scientific works. Since the study course offers you plenty choice of individual adaptation, the applicant should show clearly that the application for the Master study course Environmental Planning and Engineering Ecology fits best to the educational background personal career plans. Applicants should further show that they are already familiar with the structure and content of the courses and that they have developed already own own ideas and goals for the study.

The lecture of the Fachprüfungsordnung (only in German) is recommended, especially the part "Eignungsverfahren".


As basis of the interview the formal application is taken. Additionally th motivation letter for the choice of study (maximum two A4 pages), a CV, a Transcript of Records of former Bachelor/Study Course(s) is considered. The application deadlines are 15th of January for the summer and 31st of May for the winter semester. Because of the special conditions this year, application deadline for winter semester will be extended this year until 30th of June 2020. For candidates applying for a study start in Summer semester, interviews are expected for the 3rd/4th week in February and the 3rd/4th week in July respectively for the start in Winter semester. Invitations for the candidates after the successful review of the applications are sent out.

Online Application

The application process is initiated online. Therefore you have to create a (new) applicant account in TUM's online administration system TUMOnline. With your username and password, you can always access your application data and apply to all study programs of the Technical University of Munich. After completing the upload of your application data and printing the respective application form, sign the form and send it, together with all other required paper documents to the Admission Office.
At the end of your online application, please don't forget to finish your Curricular Analysis by clicking at the button "Dokumentenliste".
